What to Expect

We know it’s always a bit intimidating attending a church for the very first time. This section will help you know what to expect for visitors.

Church in a Home

Coram Deo currently meets in the home of one of our members in SW Springfield, but we are prayerfully seeking a building of our own!

Service/ Liturgy

Coram Deo follows an intentional Liturgy each Lord’s Day with a Call to Worship, Corporate Statement of Belief, Singing of Psalms & Hymns, Scripture Reading, Corporate Prayer of Confession, Assurance of Pardon, Weekly Communion, Expositional Preaching, Intercessory Prayer, Doxology, and Benediction

Attire

Most of the men wear slacks while many of the women wear casual dresses/slacks. We absolutely do not want this to serve as a hindrance to attendance. However, the public worship of God is a serious occasion, and we feel it appropriate to dress for that occasion.

Music

Our style is simple and traditional with basic instrumentation. We believe that our primary instrument is the unified voice of the congregation. We desire corporate participation over an impressive performance. We sing hymns and Psalms from the Trinity Psalter Hymnal in an attempt to be biblically accurate, God-glorifying, and gospel-saturated.

What to Bring

We spend a lot of time in the Scriptures so we encourage you to bring a Bible. If you do not own a Bible, we’d love to give you one when you arrive. If you’re a notetaker (we have many), please feel comfortable bringing a notebook and pen as well.

Communion

We practice a weekly observance of communion as a part of our service. We use unleavened bread and wine for the elements of the supper. As a dual-practice church, we practice both paedocommunion and believer’s communion administered by qualified elders, so long as those participating in the supper understand it is to be reserved for those who are baptized members of a believing body of Christians and are under the care and authority of Christ and His Church.

Children

We are a family integrated church because we believe that children are an important part of God’s covenant family. For this reason our Pastor and church is comfortable and encouraging of children in the service. We want you to feel comfortable too! We are accustomed to active little ones, but we also understand the occasional need to excuse yourself and your child during the service.

Fellowship Meal

We have a fellowship meal every Sunday following the service. This is always a great time of conversation and laughter over delicious food. We would love for you to stay and break bread with us. The food is provided by members of the church and you are not expected to provide anything.

What We Believe

Coram Deo Church exists to glorify the God of the Scriptures in promoting His worship, evangelizing sinners, and edifying saints. To this end we are committed to proclaiming God’s perfect law and His glorious gospel of grace in Jesus Christ throughout the world, and to defending the faith. Our mission field is every area of your life – where you are now (family, friends, neighborhood, coworkers, frequent shops, etc). We are “All of Christ for All of life.”
